Over a long period of
time Juliana McDonald has revisited a favourite area
in Georgian Bay and has seen how slow natural change
and human encroachment of wild areas have altered the
landscape and the waterways. Her work focuses on rock
formations that nurture new growth in the crevasses and
in the places where water collects. In the fragile microcosm
of a small pool where mosses and grasses grow precariously,
can be seen the macrocosm of the world in which elements
interact to support life. The flesh tones and the undulating
forms of the granite give the rock an anthropomorphic
and monumental quality, a sense of Mother Earth.
